Adam Anderson

Modern Day Masquerade

Within my thesis, I explore the empowerment of visual arts and performances. Investigating an impressionist style, I interacted with non-conforming spaces such as queer dances, gay bars, cosplay raves, and conventions– aiming to capture the atmosphere within each encounter. Expression through incorporating costumes allows us to display and enhance aspects of our authentic selves. My work is about the connections that are made between the LGBTQ+ communities of the past that paved the way for the new generation and our creative art forms. In opposition to years of queer erasure, using dazzling performances and visual flaggings creates space for remembrance.
