Alden Parmelee

Climax

Climax is a 2d digitally animated short film with 3d background elements. It has a primary focus on portraying an entire life in three acts; birth and meeting of one’s caretakers, loss of said caretakers, and a mad dash to replace them. The film intentionally makes bold, potentially untrue statements shown as universal truths, with an underlying focus on my own shortcomings as an unreliable narrator. The film is deeply Freudian, heteronormative, childish, and sheltered in nature. Climax is stylistically as digital as I could possibly make it, with bright colors and blobby characters meant to emphasize the beauty of motion, and personal body language.

Bio

Alden Parmelee is a Portland Maine based animator and a character designer. Much of Parmelee’s animation work is based around a growing fascination with capturing soft personal moments between individuals. Parmelee believes that simple human actions like holding hands, hugging, or simply itching your nose all have an immense amount of weight behind them, simply based on the motions one’s body takes to perform them. His
work, while bouncy and colorful, attempts to draw attention to these small moments in hopes that the audience will give them attention they normally would not when viewin them in live action.
