Queers Sanctified: An Anthology of Love and Acceptance
As a Queer individual with a southern baptist upbringing, all I’ve ever known was a parallel existence. A rift in space, a tear in mind, body and soul. It is through my thesis that I’ve sought to bridge this gap. My sources of inspiration consist of my own experiences and memories, christian iconography, biblical mythology, and queer theological scholars. My thesis is in the form of a graphic novella, titled Queers Sanctified: An Anthology of Love and Acceptance, that delves into these two warring identities of mine. Too often I have seen scripture weaponized against queer existence, flagrantly opposing the rich history of the queer experience in the Bible. Through my work and research, I wanted to create space for queer bodies in the theological and promote a narrative of kindness, affirmation and divinity.
