These Seeing Eyes
These Seeing Eyes is a body of work that cultivates narratives of reclamation for those who live with schizophrenia-related illness and are survivors of sexual trauma. As someone who exists within a disabled body, I mediate intersecting identities through the process of printmaking; printing under tremendous pressure is reminiscent of my marginalized experience. These narratives of reclamation in the series center around themes of personal and ecological resilience, and offer empowerment and understanding for those with my disorder. The various processes of printmaking are laborious and intensive, which mirrors the labor that comes with processing traumatic events. I view the printmaking process as a unifying and healing act, and I hope my work gives the viewer perspective on the joys and trials of living in a disabled body.
