2,600 Touches

Do you feel as if your life is starting to revolve around screens? If so, you have come to the right place. With 2,600 Touches I challenge you to put your smartphone aside, and let the tactile experience of print-based media expand your mind. Through these tactile works, including books, data visualization, packaging and posters I explored the various ways in which humans interact with paper during the different stages of our lives, and discovered that there is much more bodily movement involved in engagement with paper-based mediums, compared to the small wrist and hand movements of scrolling. By directing the viewer to complete actions like, turn, fold, rip, and discover, I strive to not only engage you but to bring an awareness about the effects of screens in our everyday lives. Incorporating interactive data visualizations gives me the opportunity to hold viewers accountable for their relationship to the screen, and provides data to showcase similarities and differences people share with their devices. 2,600 Touches relies on the user participation, as you explore the tactile opportunities of print-based media.

Bio

Originally from Deer Isle, Maine, Jacqueline has always had a love for Maine’s coastline. This is why the Maine College of Art & Design was a perfect match for her studies in Graphic Design. In her time there, she took appreciation into the different ways people experience design in the world, as well as the hands-on tactility of print based design. She strives to create work that is community based, and interactive through the use of iconography, typography, and texture. When she is not creating, you can find her by the sea.
