Sapphic Swipe: A Dating Simulator
When I started making my thesis, the idea of community was a huge theme I wanted to convey. I wanted to show a realistic queer community in the game, while also giving the opportunity to create one within a fanbase outside the game. My thesis is a dating simulator, specifically for sapphics. As an illustration major, this media change was enticing but also terrifying. The game starts in Boston as you’re moving into a new apartment. As you go into the elevator with the last of your boxes, you’re greeted by Nina, the guide for the game. If you accept her help, she and her girlfriend, Bun, help you move in and tell you about the app, Sapphic Swipe. From there, the players get one chance to pick someone they will romantically talk to and hopefully beat the objective of having a successful first date with them. There are 4 love interests, as of right now: Anna, Val, Hayley, and Eve. I wanted to showcase a variety of characters of different races, genders, body types, sexualities, and aesthetics. I can’t wait to expand on the love interests and include more variations like poly relationships, different levels of sexuality, more trans bodies, drag queen and king identities, etc. I’m so excited to see people play this game and feel connected to it.
