Memories in the Flower Garden

Memories in the Flower Garden, a collection of formal gowns, honors the relationship between myself and the people who have supported me to graduation. Since becoming an adult I've realized how important it is to honor these people and ensure they know how much I appreciate them. I thought of memories I have with each of them around the theme of flowers and associated a flower with each person: Daisy, Poppy, Lupine, Peony, Bleeding Heart, and Hosta flower. The flowers are referenced through the use of soft and flowy lines applied to traditionally feminine formalwear created through the use of fitted princess seam bodices, full skirts, and layering of different fabrics. The use of both matte and bridal satin with sheer voile creates layering effects and a sense of luminosity. The silhouettes vary from look to look, for example lupines have a structured shape and thus the gown is fitted through the whole form, however peonies have a layered shape that is formed by the petals and thus the garment is layered to reflect those shapes. The color palette for each look references the flower but overall it becomes a collection of saturated hues and varied opacities.
