Lauren Mirley

Ever since I was young, I have been surrounded and fascinated by character design. Even if I wasn’t actively pursuing or studying the intricacies of what it means to make a creative character, I was always immersing myself in that world. Over the past few years I learned about the world of 3D art and discovered that not only was it fun to create various objects and scenes, but I could apply it to my love of character design. Rather than a consolidated singular project like a game or animation, instead my thesis is a series of 3 characters. For each character I originally designed and concepted in 2D before bringing them through the 3D pipeline which consists of: modeling, texturing, rigging, weight painting, animating, lighting and rendering. I wanted to use my thesis as an opportunity to explore and expand my capabilities as both a character designer and a 3D modeler; to create an amalgamation of both my younger love for design and my newer love for 3D.
