Goodbye, Butterscotch

The idea for Goodbye, Butterscotch started this summer when my childhood dog suddenly passed away. His name is Butterscotch, but most of my friends here have given him the nickname Peepaw. He's been with me since I was eight and has been the subject of many art pieces. This project is my way of creating a permanent memory of Butterscotch. I have aphantasia which not only prevents me from visualizing things, but it also affects the way I remember people. I find myself unable to remember what departed loved ones look like unless I have a photo of them in front of me. This is where my thesis comes in, and it has been quite the journey. It started as an ambitious animated film, which was scrapped because I was sick for most of the first semester. I have been playing catch-up for most of the second semester, and with two weeks left before thesis is due my laptop completely died. My hard drive with all of my files from MECA&D was unable to be saved, luckily I had sent my thesis file to one of my friends. The virtual version of my dog gets a chance to live again, hopefully, you enjoy meeting him.

Bio

Hello! My name is Paige and I am a recent graduate of Maine College of Art & Design. I lived in Fort Kent Maine for my entire childhood, it was not until college that I was able to explore the state and my art. While at MECA&D, I focused on my game design and 3D asset creation skills. I like to design the occasional 2D game but my thesis consisted of me building low poly environments in Blender. I hope you enjoy getting to meet my dog through Goodbye, Butterscotch!
