Then Bring Me A Maiden!
My work this semester has accumulated into my webcomic: Then Find Me a Maiden! I really dove into my interests from my youth and tried to make something that a younger version of myself would have enjoyed. I delved into lesbian love, taking inspiration from my own three year long relationship and made it for a younger audience so that I can hopefully pass something along to the next generation of queer kids. One of my goals was to write something that a younger me would have ingested and normalized. This is also one of the reasons I chose to have this content online instead of traditional printed media. With the mass book bans in schools in many states my goals of reaching a younger audience would have to take place on the world wide web.
Bio
My name is Sam Walsh and I’m a current BFA senior at Maine College of Art & Design pursuing a major in Illustration and a minor in Writing. Some personal things I like to play with in my art are different body types, narrative dynamics, fun shading and coloring techniques. I work digitally most of the time with the base sketch usually being a traditional pencil sketch (which is something I picked up from classical painters and their under painting techniques). Some real life inspirations for me are dolls and figurines, both of which I collect and adore the character designs of. Other sources of inspiration for me are animated films and shows, anime, and video games! I love my two cats, Pigeon and Wyvern, both little black voids who rule my life and they remind me how important my family at home is to me.
