Consuming Bodies: The Art of Digestion

My practice delves into the complex relationship between consumerism and our bodies. Through multisensory installations, I confront viewers with the hidden costs of consumption. Processed food, plastic, and other everyday objects become unsettling reflections of what we ingest. By manipulating these materials I expose the artificiality of products that enter our bodies and the environmental impact of our choices.

This work, exemplified by the "Human Digestion" series, aims to spark a dialogue about mindful consumption practices for a healthier future. Through my utilization of form, sound, and space, I give each sculpture its own stage in the digestive process. It's a visceral exploration of the internal landscape we shape with every choice we make defined by excess, desire, and waste.

Bio

Tristan MacInnis is a multidisciplinary sculptor who investigates the effects of consumerism on the internal body and organs. Her work reflects the impacts of societal trends and consumption habits that manifest physiologically. Using synthetic food items and readymades, MacInnis's sculptures provoke dialogue about how materiality impacts physical and mental well-being. Her senior thesis explores themes of convenience, excess, and sustainability through sculptural forms, making tangible the personal and universal costs of contemporary consumer habits.
