Collectors Anonymous

Collectors Anonymous is a photographic series where I ask the viewer to question why my subjects are collecting the objects they are presenting. I am asking the viewer to consider the obsessive amount of time and money being spent, and the amount of space being taken up by these collections, to gain a larger understanding of the psychological impact these collections have on the collector. These questions are not easy to answer, as the viewer has to come up with their interpretation and response to this question. They have to study the figures in my photographs, from their appearance to how they present the objects they share with the camera. I seek to ask questions that can be discussed and explained through these repetitive photographs, detailing the large quantity and importance of one's collection.

Bio

Zane Feyler is a digital-based photographer who specializes in experimental and contemporary photography. Feyler is graduating with a BFA in Photography from Maine College of Art & Design. Through portraiture, he explores why people collect objects ranging from hair to Care Bears. Feyler presents questions in this photographic series, such as why people collect large amounts of the same things in an inflated economy and how individuals’ collections relate to their current obsessions and psychological states.
